M1A1 75mm Pack Howitzer

Designed for quick movement, this 75mm gun could be broken down into several pieces to enable ease of transport by simple wheeled carriages or pack animals when traveling over rough terrain. As period artillery was difficult and heavy to move, this gun’s mobility meant it could be deployed in operations where heavier artillery was impossible to use, namely amphibious and airborne missions. It was even deployed with British gliders during Operation Market Garden in 1944.

Perfect Caliber Bakelite MG34

Developed in 1909, Bakelite was the first non-conductive synthetic plastic designed for commercial use. During the Second World War, this material was used in applications ranging from pilot’s goggles to radio parts. Due to scarcity of resources, Bakelite stocks replaced wooden stocks on several widely deployed weapons, including the German MG34.

Restock: Panther – Panzerkampfwagen V Ausf D

Panther - Panzerkampfwagen V Ausf D

About the Panther – Panzerkampfwagen V Ausf D:

After the beginning of Operation Barbarossa in 1941, as German Panzers streamed across the Soviet Union, they were slowed by the appearance of a Soviet tank, the new T-34. The Germans found the Panzer IV’s low-velocity 75mm gun lacking against the T-34. A mildly panicked German High Command ordered the development of a new tank to combat this threat: Enter the Panzerkampfwagen V, better known as the “Panther”.

The Panther was deployed as a medium tank on all German fronts from mid-1943 to the war’s end in 1945. The Panther is often categorized into three major variants: Ausf. A, D, and G. Small adjustments were made between variants, including improvements to the commander’s cupola and the addition of a hull machine gun. The Ausf. G variant (1944) saw a complete overhaul of the hull to provide the tank with better survivability.

While having essentially the same Maybach engine as the Tiger I, the Panther had more efficient frontal hull armor and better gun penetration. The trade-off was weaker side armor, which made it vulnerable to flanking fire. Despite being classified as a medium tank by the Germans, the Panther’s weight was comparable to that of the heaviest Allied tanks.

Considered one of the best tanks in WWII for its excellent firepower and protection, its reliability was less impressive. When the Panther first deployed at Kursk, many broke down and were abandoned by their crews. Among those recovered, the complex engineering made the Panther difficult and time consuming to repair. Much like many other German tanks, the Panther outperformed comparable Allied tanks in combat — when it was actually functioning. Its high velocity 75mm main cannon and excellent maneuverability had no trouble dealing with both the T-34 and M4 Sherman.

Over 6000 Panthers in all variants were produced during the war. Despite their excellent performance, the Panthers and their crews were simply overwhelmed by the sheer number of Allied tanks produced — roughly 50,000 of both the M4 Sherman and T-34. This numerical advantage coupled with the loss of experienced tank crews in 1944-45 contributed to the eventual fall of the Third Reich.

Specifications:

  • Weight: 44 tons
  • Crew: 5
  • Front armor: 80mm
  • Main armament: 1 x 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70

White Death - WWII Finnish Sniper

About the White Death – WWII Finnish Sniper Minifig:

A legend of the 1939-40 Winter War between the Soviet Union and Finland, White Death, as he was nicknamed by the Red Army, holds the highest number of recorded sniper kills in any major war with 259 confirmed kills (many sources believe the true number is somewhere over 500 kills) and did it all in a timeframe of less than 1,000 days. Sniping in deep snow, White Death was known to bury himself deep within the banks so as to conceal the vapor from his breath and keep his position undetected. Adding to White Death’s mythical aura, he used iron sights rather than telescopic and preferred his Pystykorva rifle, which is a Finnish Civil Guard version of the Mosin-Nagant.

The Brickmania® White Death minifig features white battle-worn cold weather gear true to the uniforms of Finnish field troops during the Winter War of 1939-40. All aspects were designed by Lando and printed in house by the Brickmania UV print team.

AMX-13 Light Tank - Israeli Army - Six-Day War

About the AMX-13 Light Tank – Israeli Army – Six-Day War:

Produced for over 30 years (1952–87), the AMX-13 (Char 13t-75 Modèle 51) was an effective and prolific French light tank. Exported to over 25 different nations, the AMX-13 was deployed in more than one hundred different variants. This light tank had a revolutionary design featuring an oscillating turret with an autoloader, eliminating the need for a loader crew member. This permits the tank to have a smaller turret and chassis, reducing the weight and silhouette of the vehicle.

The AMX-13 is often thought of as Israel’s first main battle tank (MBT). It saw major combat with Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) during the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War of 1967. During the war, the IDF deployed three battalions (about 400) of this light tank on fronts against Jordan, Egypt, and Syria. Although it had some tough encounters against heavy Soviet-built tanks such as the IS-3 and T-55, the AMX-13 was a key factor in successfully defeating the Arab nations, forcing a ceasefire and earning Israel new territory including the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and the Golan Heights.

Specifications:

  • Crew: 3
  • Engine: SOFAM Model 8Gxb 8-cylinder water-cooled
  • Armament: 75mm SA 50 tank gun, 7.62 coaxial machine gun, smoke grenade dischargers
  • Range: 250 mi (400 km)
  • Speed: 37 mph (60 km/h)

Features of the AMX-13 Building Kit:

Brickmania’s first AMX-13 kit is representative of those used by the Israeli Defense Forces in the 1967 Six-Day War. The model features the AMX-13’s unique oscillating turret with custom-molded main gun from BrickArms® and 3D-printed muzzle brake from Brickmania. This model has an opening commander’s hatch and comes complete with custom tank commander minifigure. It also includes a custom-printed radiator cover tile and sticker sheet with various unit markings.

Model Statistics:

  • Model designed by Daniel Siskind
  • High-quality sticker sheet
  • Custom-printed Israeli tank commander minifigure
  • 450 new-condition elements from LEGO®, BrickArms®, and Brickmania™
  • Full-color printed building instructions
  • 1/35th scale to match other Brickmania kits
